My family hates buttercream frosting - they say its too sweet and sugary. Is there any type of non-sweet/too sugary frosting that can achieve stiff, medium and thin consistencies? I've bought Bettercreme from a couple of stores before, but it's always in big quantities. THanks!!
Join the club. Many people do not like the sicky-sweet taste. So far, I've found that cutting back on the amount of crisco used helps a lot. Make sure the crisco is whipped to death before adding any pwd sugar. Add some real butter to your recipe instead of the butter flavoring. To improve the texture, use heavy cream instead of water. Lastly, use vanilla extract sparingly. The vanilla enhances the sweet taste.
Adding salt will help cut the sweet taste as well. Usually a pinch. Helps to disolve it in your liquid first before adding it.
You could stabilize whipping cream. I think adding merigue pwd and whipping it fast at first then slowly but FOREVER would work. Just a guess though. Experiment
