How Early In Advance Can You Prepared The Decorations On A Cake?

A[B]I am making a Spongebob cake the following weekend and I need to make the decorations, but I don't know how early in advanced I could make the decorations, the decorations I want to make are sea weed (I hope I am spelling it right) and corals but I want to make them out of fondant but I don't know how early in advance I can make them. Usually I make the decorations after I had cover the cake with fondant but in this case I don't know how early in advanced I can make them???? Any help will be greatly appreciated. sorry I am bugging you with all the questions.... [/B]

AYou aren't bugging that's what the cake central website is for, to ask questions and get answers. I've only made fondant/ gumpaste 50/50 before and I made them months ago they are very fragile I've noticed but that may be the gumpaste making them rock hard. The ones that I have left that aren't boken are holding up nicely.

We have made them a week in advance and stored in airtight containers....

AIf using fondant only you probably want to make them awhile in advance so that they don't go limp.

Yes....we use a fondant/gum paste mix...
