AI'm doing a lace wedding cake at the end of this month, and I have no idea where to start. She doesn't want Cornelli lace, she wants something "delicate and elegant" her theme is vintage. I've looked at stencils but they all seem to be really bulky, my hands tend to shake a bit so I'm afraid of free handing it, but i could follow wa pattern scratched onto the cake. I've never done this before, please help! I've gotten in way over my head!

i think you are going to surprise yourself at how straight forward and beautiful this is going to be

get a few gum paste cutters--even the wilton basic kit will be great--cut them out texturize them, color them plop them on and connect some of the flowers by piping criss cross lines and you can over pipe the flowers too

also if the criss cross piping escapes you you could texturize the cake sides in advance

use these cakes for inspiration--all from martha stewart and all by the august statesman of cakedom ron ben israel

second cake show the criss cross--but it doesn't have to be all even like that--just look at some real lace--it's connected by random bits of netting

third cake shows the texturing you could do--to enhance the lace effect
