My daughter informed me, she wants to use trees and monkeys for the theme.  She plans on planting a tree for my grandson's first birthday since it also falls on Earthday too.  At first I was thinking of just making a cupcake cake in the shape of a tree using banana cupcakes. and making the smash cake into a monkey face.  The more I think about it, I So Would Love to make a 3D tree cake. simular to the one made by seriousCakes( so cute)  Im afraid of the stability and I would have to deliver it to the party.  Does anyone have any ideas on how to make it more stable?  Is there another way to do the trunk part?  I would also make monkeys in the tree instead of all the birds....I do love the owl on the trunk.

On cakes where I need more stability, I often use rice crispy treats. I'll buy a box of the pre packaged kind (I suppose you could make your own if you were really ambitious) and I mold them as necessary to create extra support. They're also good because they can be frosted and covered in fondant, and are sort of a nice surprise when the cake is cut.

Another idea for an earth day cake to respond to the second post could be an earth sitting on a larger cake, it would pop out and look 3D. I like the Wilton Ball pan, and often use one half of it for different things like baseball caps etc.
