Decorating By LibbieWaddleton Updated 28 Mar 2013 , 2:54pm by Relznik
Good morning
You wonderful people have been so helpful with all my questions
does anyone know how you make gold royal icing for doing flood icing, as i am making a crest fr my dad and ive made it and tried painting it but the paint no matter how well i stir, is always runny and therefore it goes a bit blotchy
ive seen somewhere someone piping with gold icing and i wonder how it is done?
Thank you
AI don't know of any other way to get gold royal icing except to paint it. Sounds like you're mixing your dusts with to much vodka/extract. If you start off with golden yellow icing it will be a little bit easier to paint. You can also try airbrushing or that edible spray paint stuff.
Start off by colouring your royal icing a little... I like to put a touch of Sugarflair Autumn Leaf. Then, when it's fully dry, paint with a mix of gold lustre (Squires Kitchen is a good one) mixed with a little confectioner's glaze and/or IPA (isopropyl alcohol - or I guess something like vodka would do). Do just one coat and let that dry before you go over it again (if necessary).
