Beach Pail Cake Made With Candy Melts Like The Cupcake Liner

Hey everyone!
I'm making a beach themed cake for this weekend for a birthday and the cake is being driven about 5 hours away from here for the party. I am making a beach pail filled with cake and topped with a shovel and sand decorations such. I wanted to to make the pail out of candy melt (like you make the cupcake liner in the cupcake pan with candy melt) so that it would be a little more durable for the drive and I thought it would be a really nice touch to the cake. My problem is I am using a metal pail that I have as the mold and I cant get the candy melt shell out of it! I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, if it should be in the refigerater longer. I let it set for about 25 minutes each coat, and applied 3 coats each time. Or is it possible that this doesnt work unless you are using a cake pan? Any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated!!!!

so it was very smooth inside with no nooks or crannies where chocolate could get into and hang on and hold things up?
is it just stuck onto the rim at top?
i would try this--
heat a knife and clean off the top edge if it needs it but maybe you didn't even go over the top edge?
if it's not perfectly smooth in there it might not come out
worse that could happen is melt it down & do it over
you could either make chocolate clay and use the outside of the pail for a mold
or on the next go 'round with the melted choco--put it in the freezer and time it for 5 minutes or until set--take it out and turn it upside down so the outside of the pail warms before the chocolate does and try to use that to your advantage to pop it out quick
but generally--you have best results with a plastic mold--or if you have a pot the shape of pail? we do-- but it needs to be smoothy smooth in there
you could line the pail with plastic wrap or aluminum foil or something then the finished product would show all the creases but you could cover them up with decoration...maybe
It does have a crease on the inside around the top....I put it back in the fridge after i made the post and after about 30 minutes it popped out easily. However, I had already cracked it before trying to get it out...so I'm not sure if it came out better because it was cracked or if it didnt come out well before because it wasnt set enough. I'm going to melt the candy again and give it a try. If it doesnt come out this time, I'll try what you suggested by buying a smooth plastic flower pot. I'll let you know how it turns out! Thanks for the advice!!!
