Can anyone tell me how to do a rustic buttercream cake?

I am so used to smoothing out my cakes that I have become rustic impaired.  Unfortunately this years wedding themes are rustic.  Can anyone tell me how to create the rustic look?  I have attached a few pics of the cakes that I would love to duplicate the texture of the buttercream on.

Any help would be soooooooooooo greatly appreciated.  Are there special tools etc....

I have done both designs.  I'm not a fan of either..but understand they are the popular style now.    Here's how I do it...

Put your buttercream on heavier than normal.   Use the bench scraper to get the sides even.   For the vertical stripes I use my regular icing spat and just go up ..one at a time.   For the horizontal stripes I use my small round tipped offset.   Spinning the turntable while I hole the spat level.

They are pretty easy techniques...just drive us smooth icing guru's crazy!

Good luck.

Thanks.  It sounds a little to easy for such a pretty look.
