I'm curious how many of you own your own bakery. How did you take the leap into the world of small business? Did you have a lot of commercial experience before you began? Do you work out of your own (legal) kitchen or do you have a commercial kitchen?

I'm a hobby baker that is getting my kitchen inspected in the next week or so. I'm not sure about starting a whole business but as I've had friends of friends request cakes (and I've made them but only took money towards ingredients) I would like to be able to charge for my time as well...and as someone seeking part time work, I wouldn't mind making a little bit of money to make ends meet until I can find a job that will pay bills. I have several people telling me I should open a business, but I don't think my cakes are anywhere near the level I see on here. They're delicious but completely homemade looking, but in a small town they make a splash against the grocery store alternative.

I'm excited to learn! I've been lurking these forums, reading so many old and new posts, and have so many ideas to try! I'm a generally crafty person, and I'm wondering if I could combine being a good baker with learning to decorate! You guys are a great resource!
