Frosting question

I am making a treasure island cake and I want the water to be perfect. I bought some blue Wilton Sparkle Gel (its girly cake) and wanted to know if I mixed it with some vanilla frosting if it would look okay. Would the vanilla frosting cover the sparkle up? I do have dye drops as well to help achieve the right color. But my main question is, how would the gel affect the vanilla frosting?

Frosting will not be sparkly and look like water. Just spread the gel carefully over the frosting as a second layer. LEt the first layer firm up in the fridge so they don't get muddled.

Why won't it be sparkly? And do I dye the vanilla blue then spread the gel on top? Or can I just mix it all together?

For water effect I always use piping gel. I'll add some blue food coloring to the piping gel then spread layer right on top of my frosting (which can be white). Like Sassyzan said let the frosting firm up a little before putting the gel on to keep it from smudging the frosting.

You could mix the sparkle gel into the piping gel or first put a layer of blue piping gel on the cake then add accents with the sparkle gel.

I only use piping gel for my water.    I color the the icing the color blue I want...that add that same colored piping gel over it.    You will never see the gel if you mix it with your buttercream....you need to do it seperately.  It will look super cool.
