However, I worked for Wal Mart for years before and during college and basically all the bad stuff you hear is true.

There are some very lonely people out there on the World Wide Web, that love to stir things up for their own entertainment.  The giveaway was the size of the cake they supposedly ordered then supposedly got.  There's your sign!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

How do you not notice you are missing an entire tier?  You are picking up 2 cake boxes instead of three...you notice that.

AI believe walmart wedding cakes aren't that bad. I think its more about people seeing walmart as a big concurrention because it has very low prices.

I've tasted a chocolate WalMart wedding cake, and yes, it was bad.  It was a small two tier, white frosting, simple border, a few flowers.  And the reason that the cake was purchased there?  It was cheap!  That was all they cared about.  Had I known that they were on a budget, I could have easily made them a small cake for the occasion as my gift (the bride is my cousin-in-law's mom - my God-daughter's grandma).

For some very low budget weddings, unfortunately, a WM cake is what's affordable.

I find the chocolate and the yellow cake flavors to be completely indistinguishable from each other in a blind taste test. Seriously. I was at work one day, and had to level the cakes before icing them, (which they recommended just evening it out with extra icing) and I ate the portion I cut off of them, and I seriously couldn't tell the difference. So I took a couple cube sized pieces, one of each "flavor" and shook them up in my hands, then closed my eyes and ate them one at a time, mashing them with my tongue, swirling it around, and really tasting. (I worked by myself, lol) I literally could taste no difference, whatsoever.

Silly, the yellow cake has big yellow taste, and the chocolate has big brown taste.  Clearly for the refined palate.

AI decorate cakes at Walmart, so I find some of you rude. I'm not allowed to refuse orders. Which means I have to make 10 to a 11 cakes on a busy day. With time many Walmart decorators can make beautiful cakes.

And I've tasted Walmarts cakes. They taste good to me, better than boxed. They stay moist for a very long time.

I'm not a fan of Walmart but you have to realize that the workers of Walmart do not control how Walmart runs or products.

And, yes. Exactly why I won't let a Walmart or other grocery store cake pass the lips of anyone I care about. Anything that stays,uh, "MOIST" for a very long time is not made of anything resembling real food.

Let's not get mean here, I'm sure there are lots of people who work retail for cake decorating and put a lot of effort into EVERY single order (even when the orders total 10 per day!), and there are people who are tired and just want to get it done as quick as possible, and over with. The latter are the cakes that end up on cake wrecks.

Not allowed to have our phones on us. My store doesn't have luck with cake decoraters... There has been 5 since I've worked there.

There was one that worked for a few months. But I took pictures of her cakes.... and I'm pretty sure she learned outside of work.

In other news....

I work at a chain decorating cakes kinda like Walmart and I can safely say I would NEVER buy or allow anyone I know buy a cake from a retail store.  There's nothing against the workers.  Those cakes are for people who need a cake NOW and were to lazy to order ahead or those who think $35.00 is a lot of money for a 1/2 sheet.  The cakes come in frozen in a huge full sheet slab.  Not sure how long they have been at the warehouse but I honestly don't wanna know.  Then they grab a bucket of pre-colored (not sure how old the icing) and slap on them. Any given weekend I make 20-25 cakes by myself plus do other things. I can't say every cake I toss out is amazing but I do try my best to make them decent.  Here is a few that I have done at a retail bakery:

Just because I'm curious... How much does the cake in the first picture cost?

It was 2- 8" double layer rounds for a whopping $65.00 I believe....

AThe top tier on the first cake looks bigger than the bottom tier , it's probably the same size but it looks alittle weird. Jmo.

AYou can't say "I'm not allowed to refuse orders and have to get 10-11 done in just a few hours no matter what" and then expect people to not knock the cakes! We're hating the game, not the player.
