Ok so i was trying to come up with a name and logo idea. I want something different. Not so main stream
And cute. I came up with "Killer Sweets" with a zombie cupcake as the logo. I know it would be geared towards a younger group but i like it. Opinions ?

My first thought was that it was a little scary, not really appetizing.  I like the direction you are going with (interesting and different) but maybe tweak the name/logo idea a little.  Good luck with everything!

I agree its not very appealing..

it is trendy and memorable, but I don't think it has legs to go the long haul.  The zombie craze may be over in a few years, then you are stuck with a dated name.  I don't think a cake shop named Totally Rad Cakes is going to give an impression of being a current design studio.  I think that using a trendy motif is a great idea, but maybe as a tag line or as a line of branding for a collection of cakes.

Keep in mind this is a from home business on the side. If i ever opened up an actual bakery i probably wouldn't use this name

If you think it fits your target market, then go for it. Keep in mind that younger customers typically have less disposable income.

I could see "Totally Rad Cakes" doing very well in certain areas based on irony alone.

The zombie logo and "killer cakes" are a bit too creepy...no offense meant by that..but it does bring up two dead/death references which seem a bit strange pairing with food.

I do like bombshell cakes though.

good luck!

ps- having said that..I do agree with Jason Kraft..if it fits your market demographic, then go for it...but as JK also said..this demographic may not be rolling in cake/cupcake cash.

I like the name, if that's what your target market would like. I don't think everyone has to pitch to the luxury/high end market, and those markets are suffering as well.

Are the cakes going to kill someone?  I am not sure I like that name...but if your demographic is teenagers, check what they think.  Do you have any teens in your area...they may have some good ideas for names!

Well, you must have teens in your area, silly me....icon_biggrin.gif

I agree, teenagers don't have a lot of cash and (in most areas) should not be your target market.  I can't see a 30-40 year old mom going to "Killer Cakes" for a child's birthday, or a wedding, but that's just me.  Maybe some would.  It's kind of like people asking about cake shops with risque names... you may alienate people based on name alone.

If I saw a zombie-type thing for a logo, I would go right on by... That would be a real put-off to me (just my preferences). I think whatever you go with, plan for the long-haul. If you became quite popular as a home business and then went with a store front, people would recognize your name from before... a good thing, if you had a good reputation. On the flip side, if you change your name then, people won't know who you are, and you'll be starting from scratch as far as new customers are concerned... the name would not be known.

I just opened at the end of 2012, and I tossed lots of names around. I considered several names that were way more interesting than Miller's Cakes. BUT I settled on Miller's Cakes in the end, because it's easy to remember, and very hard to spell it wrong. It's also decently short. I decided to build my name on quality, and not a cute name. Also, some really cute names are hard to spell... like they might spell cakes, "kaakes", and a potential customer would search for the traditional spelling, and have trouble finding your business. Now, this is not yelling at anyone who picked a really cool name. We all have our own plans, and that is what helps make this so wonderful and so much fun. Also, remember that you will have to go through a fictitious name search unless you use your surname in your business name.

Enjoy the journey! I sure am! Now, to pay off this commercial kitchen... icon_smile.gif
