This was my wedding cake that someone made for me, and I'd like to do something similar on a cake but I don't see the lady anymore to ask her how she done it.

Is it just little bits of ribbon glued in the little cuts?? Thats how I was going to try it anyway! lol

I have never made fondant before if this is what it is. I only do buttercream. Here is one I found on yt. Maybe it can help you. I am sure others here will know an easier way.

what a pretty design!  I've woven real ribbon in a basketweave design but had not done it with fondant.  I liked the above posted video method.

Yeh I loved that design, and I really can't wait to see if I can pull it off just as good!! ;)

The cake image you posted has been made with real ribbon, this is no longer considered good practice to insert an inedible product into an edible one (cake) - much better, health and safety-wise to make the pieces of ribbon out of flowerpaste/gumpaste and dry them over a small rolling pin in a curved shape.  You can then just push them into the cake icing where you want them - no ribbon insertion tool required, as I have done below:

Ahh! That's a better idea actually, didn't think of this to be honest as the cake was only done last year, so naughty cake maker haha. Thanks for the tips with the gumpaste think I might try it that way, to get the shiny ribbon effect would I just use the varnish on them bits? Your cake is absolutely gorgeous!!

Thank you Lea, this cake was very much an experiment of techniques I'd never tried before, it was a gift for friends of my parents so it didn't matter if it wasn't technically perfect but I'd always wanted to try Broderie Anglaise and edible ribbon insertion - the bride had carried a lilac Broderie Anglaise bag on her wedding day instead of flowers.

If you want to make the ribbon pieces shiny, just spray or paint with glaze after they have dried and before inserting into the cake.
