Yesterday I made a giant cupcake, i wanted the base in fondant!!
I turned the base upside down and gave it a fine layer of butter cream..then smoothed over the fondant...the ridges didnt show through from the cake and it was a lumpy mess ;-(
Why cant I get a nice neat base like this one:
Please Help x
That is actually a shell made with candy melts, or something similar.
There are a number of tutorials for it, http://cakecentral.com/a/giant-cupcake-candy-melt-base, that was just my first result on CC :)
AThis is what I mean:
I placed the ropes then covered with fondant to get the right texture

Best of Luck.
Maybe this seems like strange question to some of you, but I"m a newbie...and I'm wondering, what are "find ropes?" I've never heard of that...Just wondering because I really like the texture it gave the bottle cake. Thanks!
ASorry, that was fondant ropes. I was fast typin on my phone.
I used an extruder to make the ropes but you can also just roll them by hand.
Was the base of the first cake actually fondant? It looks like pink cake baked in the giant cupcake pan. Fondant in that shape might be difficult. The best cupcake base is made from candy melts, IMHO.
