How to pull Dusty Rose and Dusty Blue together?

I was asked to make a 90th birthday cake and incorporate the party colours - dusty rose, dusty blue, and grey into the cake design. I can easily envision blue with grey or pink with grey but I'm having a really hard time working both colours into the design. I will be making buttercream rosettes instead of the fondant frills for the middle tier - I am leaning towards colour striping the bag in order to bring in the colours (some rosettes will be white/rose, others will be blue/white) - will this look okay or should I stay with one solid colour? I will also be adding a few gumpaste roses in dusty rose - should I also add some in blue? Normally I can see how it will come together but I'm really stumped on this one! Can anyone help and maybe suggest something else that will pull the colours together? Here is the gorgeous inspiration cake made by Sharon Wee Creations

Can you do the top tier in the blue and grey stripe.  If your grey tends toward the blue it will not jar with a dusty rose for the second tier in the rosettes.  Then you could go with the solid grey for the bottom tier and do the scallops in the blue..  As for the gumpaste roses, you could try a gumpaste technique where you use both the rose and the blue.  What you do is layer the two colors and roll them together so that your petals are pink on the inside and the blue on the outside.  You'd have to have exactly the right shades of blue and pink.  You might also do full roses in the one color and a bud or two in the other.

 

If your blue and grey are not too drastically different from each other you could do them together as a marbled backround for the dusty rose.

I think dusty blue and dusty pink are a great complement to each other, especially tied in with gray. I'd just do the roses in all three colors.

Especially with a duck motif...My mom did her kitchen that way in the 80's, early 90's. It was really pretty!

Well, here's what I came up with! I played around the mixing the two colours together in the rosettes but it wasn't a very clean look as my client wanted. So, I decided to just add the rose colour with the roses. Thanks again for your suggestions!AppleMark
