I've been asked to make cupcakes for a wedding instead of a wedding cake.  My question is, how do you charge?  Do you charge the same for a cupcake as a slice of wedding cake?  I charge by the serving for cakes.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Also, the wedding is in July and they want an Irish theme.  Any ideas on how to decorate the cupcakes?

They don't want anything elaborate.

what you charge will depend on how elaborate the cupcakes will be. My base rate for cuppies is for 12 cupcakes, with white liners,  in a 10x10 box. For more detailed or elaborate the price goes up. For example, I am making a cupcake cake next week. It will be on a decorated board + it needs to travel + it will have a special arrangement with smaller cakes on either side. so i start with the 12 in a box rate and add on.

for the decorations i think you have to ask them what they envision. I would want something like Irish lace and green Irish bells (a flower). But they may want leprechauns and rainbows... (i hope not)

Definitely charge the same for a cupcake as you would for a serving of cake.   Cupcakes are about the same size as slice of a wedding cake serving.  They may not want anything elaborate, but even when people say that, the expectation will most likely be that they want them to be beautiful, which will take time and effort.    Ingredients will also probably cost the same as a cake.

As for the design, I am sure you are incorporating the color green somehow.  You could make white buttercream and fondant shamrocks that have been dusted with luster dust.

Wishing you the Luck o the Irish.
