How Do I Promote My New Cake Business From Home?
Business By rachelb86 Updated 4 Apr 2014 , 4:45pm by morganchampagne
I would say about 90% of my business comes from facebook. There are several different pages dedicated to selling items. When I begin to slow down, or have a lull in business, I just post on one of those sites my website, facebook page link, and a few pics. I usually get 10+ requests for quotes, and about half of those do place an order. Simple, fast and free!

You certainly are lucky to have so much business! Do you have them contact you through email or do you take orders right from your page? How do you handle deposits? And thank you for sharing! Please post your Facebook page - it's always easier to actually see how others market successfully.

Oh yes, I would like too see the link, too! It sounds so simple, and free, too! That's a win/win!
Absolutely! Here is the link to my page, with a sample post. I simply go to one of several "group" pages that I am a member of (Baby and Children Items for Sale, Wedding Items, etc.) and post the link along with a few pics. I usually get replies within minutes! My only complaint is the number of people that ask on each pic "How much for this cake". I clearly state in my post that each cake is different, and I need to know particulars for the cake/event they want to give a price, but I think the benefit outweighs that problem. Thanks for all your input!

I initially will take information either on the page or through messages. Some are simple enough to contact only through fb, others are not. I always get contact info immediately, otherwise I know they really aren't interested. As for deposits, I either do them through Paypal or arrange to meet to finalize plans.
AGlad to hear some success out there with those Facebook groups. Here, it's the exact opposite. We all cringe when we see our names mentioned on those posts. Ninety nine percent of the people asking for cakes are looking for as cheap as possible and they are rude and demanding. We have a good laugh at the requests several times a week.
AI wish Facebook could do a thing where you couldn't be tagged in stuff. I'm tired of getting tagged in some of those circles. I don't even want my name mentioned lol

No kidding! I'm truly glad for people that have success with those buy sell and trade groups. They need to come teach the people here how to be respectful. "Who can make dis for cheep?" Or "Imma not trying to pay no $200 bucks for a CAKE, so HMU if ur price is reasonable!" Gah!
I hate those groups. Literally woke up this morning to find my self tagged in a post when this woman wants a 4 tier cake and someone has put 'can do that for £60 hun'.... I don't want my name associated with those people.... *sigh*
AYep! I can count on one finger the orders I've received from requests that started out on one of those pages. It doesn't surprise me at all, the expectations of people looking there, because those groups are meant to be for bargains. Second hand clothes, used lawnmowers, etc. Why not a cheap cake? ;)

I'm pretty sure you can change your settings to not allow tagging without approval. That said, it's quite understood between several decorators I'm friends with, that we DO NOT tag or even mention each others names...lol, yeah, it is THAT bad!

Thanks for posting your link. You have some unique cakes! But I'm having trouble finding your pricing structure. Do you drop your prices to get a sale when you do those FB posts? As you can see above, most cakers get little if any FB business. Maybe you have secrets to share.

Buahaha..every day I get messages like that. It's like people's manners are in proportion to their ability to form a coherent, logically written sentence.
AAlthough I refuse to treat any inquiry any differently, and always reply politely, it's hard to get up the willingness to reply to those obvious waste of time requests. Here, let me blow ur mind with this quote. U want dis cake? HMU if so! That hurt my brain to type that just now.

I know..it's hard to reply. You just know they are never actually going to order anyway; and the ironic thing is that as much as I can't understand them, they don't understand me...writing in complete sentences.
AAnd they do it on purpose! How obnoxious, it's like looking illiterate and dumb is the new cool.

I'll have to take another look. As it stands I can still be tagged in stuff, but I have the option of whether or not it will show in my news feed
