My sister has recently told us she is pregnant and I would love to make a little cake for her and her husband but I’m struggling with ideas. Most of the pregnant cakes I find searching here or on Google are belly cakes or gender specific shower cakes. I’ll hopefully make a shower style cake much closer to the baby being born so this is more a congratulations cake than a baby cake as such. I did see one “Parents to be” cake with bees on it which was cute… Can anyone give me any other suggestions on what I could do?

Thank you!

AYou could make some baby blocks! With yellows and green and spell out "Baby" that would be cute!

ARight now, you have limited information. She hasn't picked a theme or colors or anything.

I would focus on her or them. Does she really love paisley or do they have a quirky love story? She's going to love & appreciate the cake & the thought. It doesn't necessarily have to be baby related.

Another thought, check out some "congratulations" cards...specifically ones for new parents. That may prove inspirational.

How about a take on the old saying that pregnant women eat pickles and ice cream when pregnant. I did a cake for a cousin of mine, it was a tub of ice cream with sliced pickles in it and a couple of pickles laying beside the tub of ice cream, the pickles were made out of fondant.  Here's a pic of the cake i made.

Two tiered chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream covered in fondant with fondant accents/decorations and piped cornelli lace and scrolls. Made for a last minute baby shower for my cousin home visiting from B.C.
