Hello!  My husband and I are new cake bakers.  We've made about 15 cakes now and have just been asked to give a quote for our first wedding cake.  YIKES!  The cake is 4 tiers, 12, 10, 8, & 6 round pans.  The entire cake is covered in fondant with a fondant ruffle/drape at bottom.  How much pearl dust would this cake take?  Also, how many edible diamonds should we purchase?  Including pic...the bride nixed the striped layer...

it's gonna take several of those little jars of pearl 4 or 5? 3 or 4? get one of those giant jars of it

and about 100 diamonds on the quilted tier

plus i can't tell if there's anymore on there--maybe a few on the scrolly one

i think the bride picked the best tier to eliminate

and because you say it is your first--i'm gonna add--you wanna be more than super careful with the jewelry--i hope you are getting or making sugar 'diamonds'--some little kid breaking a tooth and swallowing 'gems' is not where you wanna go i'm sure

even if the bride says she'll be liable--she gonna be off in the clouds getting hitched--it's the cakers responsibility and it's a big one.

also--so cool that you & hubby work together on this!

That pearl band above the base ruffled tier looks like it might have some in there too. Plus the diamond trim on the top two tiers...

K8memphis - Thank you so much!  We were going to do the edible jewels, but when the bride saw the cost of them, she decided to use the edible pearls instead.

My husband and I are really enjoying making the cakes.  We make a good team.  I do the actual cooking, and he is in charge of the decorating/constructions part of things...
