using pearl dust and pillow cake

hi im making a 2 tier pillow cake and was wondering if i could use pearl dust to make the white fondant shimmer.

iv never used this before and i wondered how this works. this is for a childs cake and heard to use vodka. to cover the full top half of the cake in pearl dust wont it be a problem for a childs cake.

also has anyone got any tips and advice on making a pillow cake.

Yes I generally mix with alcohol (and a much stronger one than standard vodka!) and paint it on.

 

Another option is to dust it on with a large make-up brush.
