Someone was just asking the same question last night. I would do a search on this board

Sorry, I should have specified that MeghFarr is on Cake Central. I came across her cake today browsing the recent uploads.

AppleMark

I used a black edible marker to make the marks on the tree and rolled gumpast to make the bark peeling

I made a 2 tier birch cake last December and used all buttercream frosting.  I frosted the cake roughly with white, then went back and added "globs" of white with a small spreading knife, but pulled the frosting back with a sweeping motion to create the peeled bark effect. I tinted some of the extra white frosting a brownish color. I used a "brush-like" stroke with a small spreader to blend it in to the white in random streaks, finishing some areas with an actual water color paint brush to blend.  It's hard to describe, so I'm sorry if I'm not making any sense...but after the wedding I was told some of the guests didn't even realize it was a cake, they thought it was just a decoration.  Good luck with your project, I hope you have as much fun as I did!! icon_smile.gif

It's actually not mine, I too am on the hunt to find out how to do it! The stunning one I posted was from The Peoples Cake. I guess they are coming out with a tutorial very soon!!

Great job, Jneff! Care to share how you executed this design?

There's a great tutorial on Cake Masters from the original designer that I purchased but I'm interested in seeing if there are other successful methods to achieve this look.

The peoples cake (Kaysie Lackey) has the tutorial out, it is on Cake Masters, but it is $35.  I don't get paid enough to make wedding cakes to pay for tutorial videos too! Jneff64, any advice?  this is the one that my cousin wants next month!  I'm kind of freaking out!1057924_10201609619505571_1596551714_n.jpg?oh=1dece8fa55a71c366cc6d9dd534d4fd0&oe=51D69372&__gda__=1373029084_bc29fa3d5124e8b569856ea8e26c5779
