I'm making cupcakes for a tutu-themed baby shower this weekend--something along these lines: http://thequickunpick.blogspot.com/2012/09/there-once-was-little-ballerina-who.html

I'm having a hard time figuring out the flavors and icing to put together though. I'm using store-bought pink lemonade cake mix for the cupcakes. What flavor and type of icing should I use? I considered whipped cream icing, but not sure how that does for decorating--if it's too soft? Also I thought it would be yummy to make it strawberry whipped cream, but I'm not sure if that's possible or how to flavor it. I typically use buttercream for all my cakes just because it's easiest to work with, but it's not my favorite taste, personally. But maybe buttercream would taste better with pink lemonade cupcakes than whipped cream icing, anyway. If you could provide any suggestions, I would really appreciate it! Also wondering if I should fill the cupcakes with strawberry jam, or would that be too over the top? Oh, and if you think whipped icing would taste and decorate ok, do you recommend homemade or the Wilton mix?

My understanding is that whipped cream icing will cause fondant to break down so look into that before you decide to go that way.  When I make  strawberry buttercream I blend frozen strawberries, jam and a bit of lemon juice to the buttercream to flavour it.
