Fondant decorating question

Thread Starter

Saw this cake here and was wondering how the green on the top cake was done and the pink on the bottom cake. How do you get the fondant with those drape like edges around the cake. Is it done with a cutter or free hand?

I do mine by hand, I use a stencil or something to trace to get an even shape, then cut by hand.

Yes, what they ^^^ said.   The sides are covered w/the other colored fondant, then the cut on is draped over the top & the scallops hange down.

The Wilton "Show n Serve" cake boards , the ones that have scalloped edges work great for a template. I bought those cakeboards on accident once and it was a cake blessing in disguise! Just roll out your fondant and place the scalloped board on top( use a size thats larger than your cake to allow for overhang) and cut out shape with an Exacto knife.
