I do mine by hand, I use a stencil or something to trace to get an even shape, then cut by hand.
Yes, what they ^^^ said. The sides are covered w/the other colored fondant, then the cut on is draped over the top & the scallops hange down.
AThe Wilton "Show n Serve" cake boards , the ones that have scalloped edges work great for a template. I bought those cakeboards on accident once and it was a cake blessing in disguise! Just roll out your fondant and place the scalloped board on top( use a size thats larger than your cake to allow for overhang) and cut out shape with an Exacto knife.
