I need a suggestion for covering a big cake

Hi there,

I have a 12"by 8" tall cake, I want to cover it with fondant. I am wondering if I can do the same as regular cake or is there any other way to get better ?!!!!

 

by the way I am new to this page and I found it very helpful

for some of my bigger cakes, especially if there is going to be a ribbon down the middle, I decorate in 2 halves, rather then the whole entire cake.  So I cover both halves and use the ribbon or stripe to hide the seems.  Not sure if this will work for your cake.  Or perhaps you could wrap the cake with fondant and meld the seams together.

I also faced the challenge of trying to cover a large sheet cake (6" tall x 18" wide) with fondant. You could try covering the cake in two stages - sides first and then the top - finish edges with a shell border of royal icing or buttercream - to conceal the joins. This method worked well for me - see picture.
