I wanted to use gum paste for some silicone molds that I have but it keeps sticking on to it and it starts being a pain to take it out of the mold. I'm frustrated because I was depending on the mold for coral (I got the Wilton ocean themed one) for a cake this weekend.

At first I thought it was because of the food coloring (even though I used the gel one) but I tried using the un-dyed ones and it does the same thing! I tried putting sugar powder on the mold but its just the way the gum paste is acting :(

Until then I'm off to look for alternatives on how to make coral!

You can use a tiny bit of liquid vegetable oil, or cornstarch. The sugar just makes it stick worse, as you have found ;-)

HTH!

Shoot really? I thought it was supposed to help it not stick like with most things..stupid me!

The oil wont effect the gum paste at all?

It will absorb the oil, after a while. I like the finish it gives, dries to a matte. But if you are painting on it, that may effect your paint, depending what sort of extender you use. It helps keep the luster dust on, for sure.
