And to think I know a caker who quoted , I believe, $250 for this set up, and the client still thought it was too expensive.

OF COURSE!!! Just figure an hour on each cake, icing, (chasing it around the table with your spatula!) smoothing, (pushing it around the table with your scraper or paper towel) then applying the fondant, smoothing it, piping in RI, then having to paint the gold over it, and the flower on top... Plus the cost and overhead!

We used a lot of wine , when we did them .I had to leave my car at my friends house and her husband drove me home

I won't touch mini-cakes.

We used to, but people had hissy-fits at the price. Cake muggles just don't get it. They look at a mini-cake and think *cupcake*, and then croak whe you say that minis start at $25.

True, which is why I suggested that she give the client the option of cupcakes with BC in those colors instead.

AI'd not take the order, unless I was desperately bored and desperately needed money.

If I did do it, minimum cakelet charge of $20.00 each, top cake $100, plus delivery, stand hire etc.

I did a chocolate boxlet arrangement (in my photos) and even those nutted me up...there were only 35 of those suckers! I was up all night.

Uh oh, how I hate mini cakes... I did several weddings with mini cakes last year. No matter how much I charge, it is never nearly enough.

I usually start at around $ 10 for the round ones, for these I would charge 15 $ as well, plus the top cake. For me that would be $ 1120 plus delivery.

I am also wondering this!  Would poured fondant give the same finished look?

I'm sorry that this is off topic but I had to say something.  I don't know if this term is new or maybe I've just never heard it but I love it!  Haha!  Thank you!

i hate chasing little cakes around the table!  argh.. i think for cakes this little, i would have just piped (round tip pea sized opening) all the way around the cake and then laid a piece of plastic wrap over the top gently and fold down over all sides and then twisted under the tiny cake board  to make a tight little dome. freeze, remove wrap and voila, smooth and rounded...in theory anyways :) then fondant and the rest of the decor. soo much work for little cakes! argh!!  they are such a PITA and customers NEVER understand why they cost so much!

To me it looks like they were little squares, but in covering with fondant the edges became rounded. But that's just a guess. I have never done mini cakes, and have no desire to. I would quote a super high price for the mini's, and a price of what cupcakes, or satellite cakes would be for the same number of servings. Let them see the error of their ways!

On a side note, i do LOVE the bright colors.
