Hi, this is my first post and I hope some of you experienced bakers out there can help me! I recently made some valentine's cupcakes using a cream cheese chocolate frosting, it tasted wonderful but it was so terrible to pipe, I had to keep putting it back into the fridge between cupcakes! it just didn't hold it's shape well enough. (I'd made the frosting ahead of time, stored it in the fridge and re-whipped the day I was piping).

This has now put me off using cream cheese in my buttercream as it just doesn't seem stable enough. Can anyone recommend a recipe for a simple buttercream that tastes great, pipes well and holds it shape at room temperature? I have used SMB and I like it but I don't think it's quite what people expect in the UK. I also wouldn't use shortening so it has to be a mainly butter based recipe.

Thank you for any help / inspiring ideas!
