Hi,

How would you go about doing this cake? It's for my DH's uncle who grew up near this town. It needs to be fairly small- 10 - 15 people. Even a bit more would be okay.I would like to do it 3D I don't mind doing some RKT, but want it mostly cake and don't want to fuss with those bars and stuff on the side. Carve? Stack? Any other thoughts? I'd appreciate any suggestions. I have time...

I couldn't imagine doing this cake for 10 people since sometimes the smaller a 3D cake is, the harder it is to do well. I would suggest doing some fake tiers in the bottom of the buildings so that they look bigger or perhaps make the tallest parts styrofoam. Stack the real tiers and fake tiers together and then panel the sides of the building with fondant. If it's for family and not a paying customer, I would probably cheat a little and use wires instead of gumpaste for the poles.

I hope that helps! :)
