Is it possible to tint pre made/colored fondant to a darker or different color?

I'm thinking about buying one of Wilton's pastel fondant kits since it has a lot of the colors I need for some tiny decorations. I know their stuff isn't great taste wise but the cake is for someone who will be more amazed at how it looks than taste :P 

 

But I was wondering if I could tint the colors to make them darker or mix different food coloring to make it a completely different color if I have to? I might just buy a whole tub of satin ice fondant and just color that as I need to.

i think it's a great idea--i would buy the darker colors and mix them up and add white to get the colors i wanted

I buy the darker coloured fondants from satin ice and regalice , and them I cut them with white to get the pastels .

Also some of the dark colours can be cut with up to 50 % white and still stay very dark . As white is cheaper than the coloured fondants , it works out a lot cheaper.

So you think buying the white fondant and just coloring it is easier?

I had pink premade fondant and wanted a slightly darker pink so I added some red. I accidentally added too much red gel paste that it turned the fondant a bright red. I had to mix in some white to bring it back a little. Whoops. Luckily it was just for practice. So yes, it can be done.
