Hi everyone!! I'm new to cake central and would really appreciate any help. Cake decorating is a hobby of mine but would soon like to start selling. I am really unsure of how to price a cake, and figure out how many people a cake feeds. I want to try making a cake similar to the cake pictured but I have a few questions. What size cakes are these? How many people would it feed? Also how much would a cake like this cost? Thanks so much for your help!

Many people use either the Wilton chart or Earlene's chart to calculate servings per tier. The Wilton chart is for party servings, for a wedding multiply the servings by 1.5. Earlene's chart is somewhere between a wedding serving and a party serving.

To price a cake, add up your ingredient cost, labor cost, and per-order overhead (license fees, insurance, etc.) and add a markup for profit corresponding with the market value in your area (some market research may be required here). Note that in some states you need a licensed and inspected commercial kitchen to legally sell cakes, and other states allow you to legally sell cakes from home with some restrictions.

This will give you the wedding servings without having to calculate from the party chart. The chart also has some other really helpful information for planning.
