It would help if you tell us where you live, and what kind of business you are looking to start?

AI'd love some advice as well. I'm hoping I will outgrow the cottage food law this year!

I live in Charleston, SC & want to open a bakery.

You have several years of financial records to show a bank that you have a viable growing business that needs expansion.  Start talking to local bank managers and credit unions about this.

ABusiness loans are tough to get these days. Grants are virtually impossible to get unless you meet very specific requirements, e.g. you are doing certain types of scientific research or were impacted by a natural disaster.

A home-based food business will generally cost at least $1-2K to start if you can legally sell food from home or have access to a commercial kitchen you can rent. Most of the cost will be in ongoing operations, which you can build into your prices.
