Hi there :)
I know this is a silly question but as silly as it is, I can't find the answer anywhere! LOL! I'm going to be making a two tiered cake this weekend and transporting it about an hour. I have made a tiered cake before but never transported it so that's why I'm kinda stuck on this. Each tier will be on a same sized cardboard cake circle but then the entire cake will be sitting on a cake drum. How can I secure the cake to the cake drum so it doesnt slide around during transport? I secure my cake to a cake circle using a dolop of buttercream....should I do the same thing with the bottom tier when I place it on the cake drum? The bottom tier will also be on a same sized cake circle so basically I need something between the cake circle and cake drum so the cake won't slide off the drum.
I hope that makes sense
thanks so much!
Jennifer
sometimes i use hot glue
sometimes i use the icing dollop
some people use the dowel down the middle too--it could stick into the drum
i deliver all my cakes cold and boxed to preserve the temperature
climate controlled for that invisible safety/protection too
I put the bottom tier directly on the cake drum, secured with bc. No need for an extra cardboard under it.
I'm not the most knowledgable person on this site but I think I can answer this one! If your cake drum is covered in fondant, a smear of buttercream will adhere the bottom of the cake circle to your drum. If not, and this is just me, you can cut a smallish circle of nonskid shelf liner with a little hole cut out of the center. Place it between the drum and cake board. Then drive a center dowel through the tiers making sure it pierces the drum also. I've driven many, many two and three tiered cakes 150 miles to family. Never had a causality! I hope that made sense and helps.
WOW, excellent suggestions! My first thought was the non-skid shelf liner like CarlaG suggested but there are so many other great suggestions! Leah_s, I did think about putting the bottom tier directly on the cake drum but didnt know if that would make it more difficult to ice and decorate. Hot glue, double sided tape, melted chocolate.....all EXCELLENT ideas! Now I feel like I can be prepared no matter what supplies I have on hand! Thank you all so much! :o)
