So it was my very first and I made the MMF too... Very big accomplishment for a cheesecake girl lol. I think I rolled the fondant to thin so next time just a tad thicker and the buttercream under needs to be more flat less bumpy. I did this in 3 hours so next time i will take more time. The reason i did this in 3 hours is because my daughters Boyfriends father has his 50th today and just found out last night. So i thought what a great time to test out this MMF thing and give it a whirl.(i type this with black and blue fingers from the colouring lol)
That's good for a first time with fondant!
Are they bumps, or bubbles? Bumps can be lessened with a flawless BC underneath as you point out. Perhaps you could chill the cake for a little while (just so the outside of the cake is firm) before covering in fondant next time. It stops the BC from squishing around. Any bump under the fondant will show through - think of the Princess and the Pea story! Thicker fondant will hide some flaws but not alot.
If they are bubbles, usually this is caused by not dampening your BC evenly, so the bubbles appear because your fondant is not stuck properly. If you still get them, you can pop them with a needle at an angle, and smooth over.
Also, you will likely get a 100% improvement if you ever try ganache under fondant ;)
It was definitly bumps.I will cool the cake after buttercream next time before i fondant. It was a squeshy when i applied the fondant so i bet if i cooled the buttercream before i fondant it would make a world of difference. Thank you
