Seafood Crab Boil Cake- Pricing
Business By CakeEvolution Updated 9 Feb 2013 , 5:27am by CakeEvolution
Hey guys... I just wanted to get a feel of what the market is charging in general. I live in Atlanta but I know location can affect the price. Just wondering..... What Would YOU Charge?
This cake is 10" Round - 4 (2") layers ... Basic cake flavors and fillings. (serves 56 according to Wilton's guide). Decorations are made of fondant, gumpaste, and larger items contain RKT as their base.
I strive on my making my cakes 100% edible.... Only items that are not edible are the inscription signs due to the request of adding a child's name to cake as well.... It ruined my original plan... But I totally understand... Can't leave the kids out!!
Thanks in advance!
Oh... Edible decorations include: Whole crabs, snow crab legs, potatoes, mussels, corn and shrimp. OMG... the corn on the cob was PAINFUL!!! I like adding finer details but for some reason... this corn was pure aggravation. lol
My 3d cakes start at $200 and I go up from there depending on the complexity. That's probably kinda low for something like this, what with all the extra details. How much did you charge for this?
AI miss living in Atlanta! I lived there most o my life.
First of all, did you really indicate this cake is 4-2" layer cakes? That's about 8-9" tall total.
I would make the sign edible as well. Make it from gumpaste or rice paper. I'm with you...as much as possible should be edible.
Livin in Charleston this is a popular cake. There is a lot of detailed work on that cake. If they have a tighter budget, I would suggest less crabs & such on the table.
Based on your specifics, I would charge about $450-500.
AThere are at least 3 whole crabs (including eyes & such) & 8 shrimp & 4 ears of corn! Lots of sculpting & details...
AOh yes. Lots and lots of sculpting.... And underpricing going on here... Lol. I charged $275 but once it was all put together I realized the errors of my ways.
Cake was 10" round... One 2 layer white almond and One 2 layer amaretto, I believe
There were 4 whole crabs, 3 large snow crab legs, 5-6 corn on the cobs various sizes, probably 10 potatoes and 10 mussels... 16 shrimp atleast.... I made too many decorations in fear of the pot NOT being full enough.... Once we delivered the cake We used the extra decorations all around the pot and stacked 2 crabs on top of one another on the cake board (it was too cute).
