Request for US cake knowledge!

Hi there, I'm sorry this probably isn't the right place to put this, but I wondered if anyone can help me! I'm writing from England, where I am organising the props for a theatre production. The play is set in the US in the 1950s, and a couple of scenes involve people sitting at a table drinking tea or coffee. I just wondered if anyone knew what cake would have been popular to accompany this at the time? And also biscuits, as they eat these in another scene? They are a wealthy Jewish family, and its is the summer, if that makes a difference!

One note, Americans eat cookies, not "biscuits" with tea or coffee.

In the 50s?  Any kind of pound cake or cake baked in a tube pan.

Or coffee cake?  And as far as the biscuits/cookies, I'd go with oatmeal or sugar cookies.

I vote for pound cake, coffee cake, chocolate cake or angel food. Bundt cakes didn't become popular until mid-60s.

Lemon Chiffon with butter icing, chocolate cake with white icing and angel food cakes. 

Spuddysmom is correct  about bundt cakes not becoming popular until the 1960's (due to the poor quality of the bundt pans in the 50's).

I grew up in the 1950s in a non-Jewish household and this is what I remember from that time:

 

Angel food cake made in a tube pan (not Bundt) with boiled (meringue) icing

Devil's food cake with caramel icing

 

Chocolate chip cookies

Oatmeal cookies

Sugar cookies

There. Their. They're not the same.

 

I hope I die before "your" becomes the official contraction of "you are."

Chiffon cakes were very popular in the 1950's. Also Angel Food and Coconut Cake.
