I have seen few molds in squires, need to get some pennies, do you coat the icing in cornfloutr before you put it in? I used to make soaps and have a few wee silicone molds and i tried to push in fondant into 1 easy mold just a smiley face one and tried to peel it off, came to bits lol i gather you are meant to leave it in mold to harden up? xxx

Yes you put the cornflower on the icing , not the mould.   If you use a paste that is sort of firmish you should be able to take it out straight away. If you have problems you can pop it into the freezer for five minutes and then it should pop out fairly easily.

If the figurine is going to be saved, why not make it out of Sculpey.  When baked, it's just like porcelain and you can stick a skewer into it just before baking -  that will hold it up; then the recipient can remove the skewer for display in their china hutch.  And before anyone gives me heck for putting Sculpey on a cake surface, I've done a lot of research on this and Sculpey is not dangerous, hazardous, toxic when placed on icing - but just in case someone might think that, I make sure to put it on a wooden skewer 1/16th of an inch above the icing.

What is sculpey is it like some kind of dough or clay?

Sculpey is clay , but I find it a little expensive.  However they have really good face moulds in that brand . You can usually find them in a craft shop .
