Hi all! My good friend E has a birthday coming up, and she'd love a cake made to look like one of her 6 guinea pigs (photo of some of them attached below). I've looked at all guinea pig cake photos I can find on Google image search and I've found a few similar to what I'd like to make but no guidance is provided with any of those (photos uploaded below as well).
Does anyone have tips/suggestions for making a guinea pig cake? I think the furrier ones are way cuter, so I'm going to make one with fur. Haven't even decided if I should go for buttercream frosting or fondant for the fur. Buttercream has great texture but I don't want it to look messy and detract from the whole. On the other hand, I don't simply want to do color cutouts for fondant and draw a few lines to suggest fur. I want the texture to be good. The Pirate Guinea Pig cake inspiration photo below makes up for the minimal texturing of the fondant with blended colors. Unfortunately, I don't have an airbrush so I think I'll need to add in more raised texture.
Thanks in advance for any help!
