Hi, I am making a Harry Potter snitch cake for a birthday party and it needs to have gold colored buttercream. I do not need it to be metallic (I have pearl dust I can brush on after the cake is iced), it just needs to be more gold colored than yellow, and all my colors have been coming out more yellow. Any suggestions? Are there certain icing color combinations that will make a gold color? Thank you!

AMaybe mix some food coloring. More a yellow with a brown maybe? Not to sure. If you wanted something along the lines of edible glitter, you could mix gold highlighter with some piping gel. It looks really nice. HTH

If I am making a New Orleans Saints gold color....I use lots of Ivory Americolor....If I'm making LSU gold..........I use egg yellow Americolor.   Don't know if that helps or not.

I had to do gold for a football team themed cake the other day and I used a small amount of lemon yellow, added a small amount of golden yellow, and a very small amount of copper.  It came out perfect.  It was very experimental, but I was pleased with the results.  (those colours are Wilton, btw)
