When I want a large border I use a large star tip (open or closed, depends on the look you want) and make like a snail.  Something like the bottom boarder on this cake.

Here is a swirl rosette. She is using a smaller star tip but if you want a bigger border you can use a 1m, 2D tip or 199 tip which will make bigger swirls.

You can try the swirls that go up and down with any size tip. I used the same one to swirl on cupcakes. Forgot the tip #. It is like 1A or 40? Lol! Sorry but I included a pic. Good luck.

@VISTA This is EXACTLY what I am looking for! Can you tell me what tip you use and how you get the design to come out?

Thanks!

Do you know what Tip you used and how would I get it to come out like this?

You can use any large star 2D 1M.

It's a kinda curve. Tip on board pipe up and over down. Play with it and you'll see it's fairly easy.

I'm sure there is a link to Wilton or something showing this technique.

It's never "just cake!"

You may get a cake for $way to little but you won't get this cake!

You can also do a search using these terms:  youtube, rose cake

and you'll see 4+ videos showing how to do this technique.
