Sinking icing

Just wondering what I'm doing wrong.  It's been a long time since I've done decorating with color flow and I don't remember this problem from before.

I pipe an outline and then fill in with color flow icing made from thinned royal icing.  It looks great when I do it but then when it dries it sinks in the middle and a lot of the time it gets a hole in it.???

The other day I did wet on wet with flow icing and even the little dots I made on the other wet icing ended up sinking and becoming holes.

 

What am I doing wrong, I look for air bubbles but there don't appear to be any.  Any help would be appreciated.  Do you think I am just using too much icing?

Possibly too much water in the softened icing.

I agree with Irene.  The icing used to flow was probably thinned down too much (that is when it has happened to me, anyway).  Also, you have to almost over-fill so that the "puddle" of royal icing is rounded, not flat, to account for the shrinkage as the liquid evaporates.  Of course doing that without overflowing the outline can be tricky!  The consistancy has to be just right...
