OK, going to all my friends here because I'm having no luck on the internet. Does anyone know of a supplier for cake mixes? I'm sick of paying the retail price for a box of Duncan Hines or Betty Crocker and I need to buy in bulk. Does anyone know of a supplier either in Alberta or that will ship to Alberta? Any help is appreciated!!

Get over to BulkBarn. They sell cake mix in bulk that is so close to DH that you can;t tell after you have baked it. You can ask them to sell you full 50lb. boxes, and you then measure it by weight at home.
If there is no BulkBarn, there is another Weston "bulk" chain that will have the same stuff at justabout the same price. Sorry I can't remember the name.

Thank you for your suggestion! I phoned them but their prices are $5.60 and $6.10 per kg, which works out to be more than the retail price of BC or DH. Can't believe they charge that much! I know there is a place in Calgary that supplies this stuff but I can't remember the name. So frustrating when memory no longer works the way it used to.....

OK so go to www.google.ca and type "bakery supply calgary" into the search box.
You don't have to remember the name to find a business. There was one in Western Canada called MJB or MJS or something--maybe that is who you remember?
I'm sorry the BB didn't turn out as good a price as I thought. Their prices for icing sugar are competitive and they carry high-ratio shortening as scoop-your-own instead of you having to buy a huge cube.
The No Frills chain (Weston again) carries the NO NAME yellow packages--cheap but you have to add pudding mix and more water. NO NAME is really good instant pudding, I tried them all and was very pleasantly surprised. Don't know if that works out to the same $$$.
The other place to look is Food Basics (competing chain) or Sobeys/FreshCo or even Wal-Mart (ugh...gasp...I know) because they carry name brands at very competitive prices. The house brand at Sobeys is better than the NO NAME yellow box brand. I don't know if Safeway has a discount chain out west, but their house brand of cake mix is again as good as DH.
