Will Box Cake Withstand Stacking? Help ~~ Birthday In 10 Days!

Super New at all this cake baking but love to learn more....
Okay so I've played a little with the MMF recipes and I didn't do too bad. I'm making my baby's first birthday cake (Hello Kitty) and I wanted to make a 2 or 3 tier cake. Will box cake work for that or do I need a special recipe?
Also, can I just put the cakes on top of each other as is or do I need to use cake boards and/or dowels?
Do I have to use alot of Buttercream frosting if I'm going to cover it with MMF? Ugh, I think I bit off more than I can chew with this project. Please Help!!
Thanks,
Cynt
If using box mix increase eggs to 4 cut water or liquid in half and add 1/2 to 1 full box of related instant pudding (the small box. Bake as usual
Anything over 4 inches should have inner supports, boards and dowels for each tier else it will collapse.
A thin coat of buttercream on the outside under the fondant, but you can fill between layers pretty well to make up for it.
If I am using a box mix I just substitute the oil for butter and milk for the water. Makes a nice sturdy cake that is great for stacking and/or carving.
