Hi there Folks!

I have been researching all I can, but I am just not a computer person. I have a Mac, and I am very invested in the Cake Boss system. I asked a lot of professionals and they say I do not need Parallels in order to get the system running...just windows. So I know it says I need 7 on the website, but does anyone know if 8 will work? 

I can't even explain how badly I want to get the program up and running....haha....

I read the FAQ on the CakeBoss website.

They say very clearly that you NEED Parallels on a Mac to run CakeBoss.  They being the folks that wrote the software, they would be the ones to tell you how they got it to work on their Mac. Get your PC experts to read those FAQ, they should be able to understand the system requirements.

To explain in plain English, your Mac (runs Parallels (runs Windows (runs CakeBoss)))  nested hierarchy like an onion with multiple layers.

If you have a business, you might consider that it can buy a refurbished  PC to run Windows.  I have bought two of them--they are Dell, came from lease, were refurbished by Dell, and they work like new.  They come with XP or Win7, take your pick.  You would be able to count on CakeBoss running properly, and you can download OpenOffice to run whatever other spreadsheets you need from www.openoffice.org for free.

AI am not a computer person at all either. I have a Mac and CakeBoss. I do not have Parallels. I have Windows though. All I need to do is use Bootcamp, which I believe came with the computer, to switch over to the Windows side where I was able to install CakeBoss. It's a little bit of a pain because switching back and forth requires restarting the computer. So, while Parallels is not required, it would make life a little easier. Parallels allows your computer to run Windows at the same time - no need to reboot and switch to the other side. I just chose Windows for now because someone gave it to me for free and Parallels is ~$75. And I'm FAIRLY certain I have Windows 8.

AI'm not sure if you are referring to Windows versions, but if you are I would buy Windows 7 instead of Windows 8 (unless you have a tablet). As stated above you can install Windows on your Mac and use Boot Camp to switch. Just make sure you purchase a genuine licensed copy of Windows, if you have an unlicensed copy it can be deactivated at any time.

Just a word from a decorator with a computer science degree. Unless you use a tablet, do not change to Windows 8. It was developed for the new Windows tablets and even though you can use it on a desktop, it's pretty useless. Windows 7 is the best operating system for PC's there has been for a long while. If you have a Mac and use Windows as well, it's just as easy to get Windows 7 as 8.
 

I just tried to download this software (I have a mac) i also went through and installed parallels. And I still cant seem to get it to install. 

can anyone shed some info on this. Im not tech savy but im not silly either and its starting to annoy me.

I'd ask CakeBoss directly, I had inquired about them developing software for Android tablet (since that's all I use, no computer) and they replied back to me within the day answering my questions.
