I'm a bit bummed, my KitchenAid Prof. 6 QT mixer was just sent out for repairs.  It was making an absolutely ridiculous (and kinda frightening) noise. It's not under warranty so I've sent it back to diagnose and then they'll let me know what it is going to cost to fix.

 

I'm a hobby 3F's (Free, Friends, Family) baker so I only own one mixer.  I'm now trying to convince my husband that I need a backup, perhaps the Artisan by KitchenAid because I love the pivoting head instead of the lift of the bigger Professional model.

 

I'm considering spending a few extra bucks and getting a used countertop model from Hobart, I would love a 10Qt or 12Qt option (even though i'm not running a business here).

i think getting a 10 quart is a great idea

 

there are lots of great mixers that are not hobarts

 

the difference in price is staggering

 

even used hobarts to brand new other brands

 

if you were battling it out with bread dough--yeah maybe go straight to the top

 

but wow hobarts truly rock too!!!

 

for about 2k you could buy

 

  • three avantco 10 quart mixers

 

  • two vollrath 10 quart mixers

 

  • one 5 quart hobart

Kitchen collection will often have really good deals on refurbished. I bought myself 2 a couple years ago, and still had some money left over icon_wink.gif so I bought my grandma one too! Artisan for under $250, not sure of the exact price.

I also got a bowl lift kitchen aide for $40, off Craigslist, and a 10qt Hobart off Craigslist for $250.

I have never had any but refurbished, my first from 12 years ago is still going.


If anyone is counting, that is 4 kitchen aid and 1 Hobart, icon_wink.gif

no i mean it honestly seems pretty inexpensive for a brand new commercial mixer

 

you generally don't see them that reasonable

 

typically the 10 quarts start around $900- 1k new

 

$1100 for that hobart 10 on ebay is a fantastic price--if it was an auction it would go way over

 

i don't know why they are selling so cheap--shipping will add a few hunderd dollars

  • i've purchased 5 ka's two are mine three were gifts

 

  • 1 hobart 5 qt

 

  • 1 univex 12 qt

 

  • 1 berkel 20 qt

Oh wow! 8 mixers? That is awesome! Do to use them all yourself? I would forget what was in each one!

i turn 'em all on, take three steps back and start tossing eggs and bags of flour and sugar and whichever one fills up first wins

no but, three of them do not operate, one needs the cord and the re-wired electric outlet, the other two are lingering in i.c.u.

 

three i gave away

 

two work -- i love my univex 12 quart
