Hello All!  I have an order for 3,000 mini cupcakes. I'm trying to figure out how to package them.  My thought is to use the largest cake box (28X18) or any good box.  Then use the mini cupcake inserts. This way I can get more cupcakes in one box. I'm trying to calculate the measurements for the inserts and how many will fit. What do you think?

AThe largest inserts I've seen for mini cupcakes are for 2 dozen, they fit in a 10"x14" quarter-sheet box. You'll need at least 125 boxes so you should be sure to include the ~$175 packaging cost (plus labor for packing and unpacking) in your quote.

I found a cake box size 14X10X4  and the mini 2 dozen inserts are 14X2.  now if i'm calculating that correctly i can put 5 inserts into one 14x10x4 cake box.  which will give me 120 cupcakes per box. has anyone done this before?

WOW!! It costs a lot for packaging!!! Sounds like it costs more for the boxes than for making the 3,000 mini cupcakes.

Not by a long shot, the price for this order should be in the $3000-4000 range.

Yeah because (just in the event you needed a visual):

Hi, the bakery where I used to work had an order for 6500 mini cupcakes. The name of the shop is "Classy Girl Cup Cakes" in Milwaukee, if you go to her face book and scroll toward the bottom of the time-line where they did the event for Kohl's Cares Cancer walk, you can see how she packaged them and loaded them into her van.  I didn't work there at the time of the event, but Erica the owner is such

a nice person, I'm sure she would tell you how she accomplished that very tall order.

Hello all.  I charged $1,800 and they thought that was too much for 3,000 homemade mini cupcakes.  therefore they purchased them from the grocery store.  well you win some and you lose some.  i thought my price was a great price.

You were lucky they thought it was too much, you probably would have made considerably less than minimum wage with zero profit at that price.

for mini cupcakes you can use egg cartoons.  http://www.eggcartons.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=EGF18BL-1

I know it's after the fact, but I go to UPS and buy the rectangular shipping boxes. The ones I buy cost about $6 each and hold over 200 minis, they are nice and sturdy, so I can stack them in the truck and not worry about them flattening.

I also line the bottoms with some textured drawer liner, I get a big roll for a couple bucks, and that stops them from sliding around. Really easy to carry as well.
