AHi everyone, I just starting an account, so I am still working on how to do everything on here, I can't seem to work out how I attach the images at the minute, only way to view my cakes would be on the Facebook page I set up not that long ago. Which is Ninas Cakey Bakies. I have enjoyed for a while now making my children's birthday cakes, recently a friend asked me to duplicate the toy story one for her, which I did for just the cost of supplies, I am now having her friends which were at the party give requests, which I am not that confident on my work to maybe do. My friends and family say I have a talent but I am wondering if they are bias. I would greatly appreciate if anyone has the time to view them and give there opinion on if I am ready to start taking orders from strangers, as this is a different thing to making for family. Once again many thanks in advance for taking the time out for any replays.

Nina

Thank you Mia2906, that cake was the most labouring one i have done. It took 13 hours from start to finish but seeing my step sons face made it worth it.

They look great. As you do more and get more experience they will get better & better and and yo can start putting a higher price on them.

I have been making cakes for over twenty years and started my business in 2008. In the early days of my business I charged much less than I do now because I did not have as much confidence to do more challenging cakes and I wanted to get the orders in.

As time has gone on I have increased my prices to be a true reflection of the work involved.

HTH and best of luck!

Amanda

AThank you Amanda , I hope I am making cakes for as long as you have, I really enjoy it, and I know with the more cakes I do the better they will get. Fingers crossed.

You're doing great! Your fondant is neat, Your stacking is level and you've a good eye for design; it's easy to add too much detail especially in a kids character cake- well done!

Keep at it! Keep trying different things; maybe go for a 3D car or teddy, google 'how to...' or post a question here; we'll help :)

Take care doing cakes for money, even if you're only paid cost, I gave 'practice' cakes away for months (under the stipulation that I make what I want to make- not what you want me to make for you- as it's my hobby and my practice- I want to learn something!).

Looking forward to seeing more of your cakes :)

AYes I think that is the key, more practise at different shapes and design, to help build up my confidence. Thanks for your reply and I will post the next cakes I make.

your cakes are wonderful! Usually, we are less confident of ourselves as we know the flaws that we have done. We are always the worst critics of our own creations.

Keep it up and you'll do much better...just remember not to under price your work... cake making is easy, it's the design that goes into it that makes a cake more tedious and labor intensive...do not underestimate your labor work.
