Rose frill cake

I was looking for threads which discussed making a wedding cake that has these frilled roses on the bottom tier like this pic below. I just can't locate the threads...searching since the past 40 minutes! Can someone please help? Thank you!

The first link didn't work....the second technique I've tried several times, but was looking for something with fondant.....kind of like the last link in my original post....

So I tried doing the frilled ruffled roses kind of look for the tier and big disaster! It didn't go around like the pic and kept falling over itself. Any idea on affixing it to the cake please?

I tried it once (below) and while not nearly as pretty as the pic you posted, I think it was the general idea of what you're trying to do. I just made thin fondant strips and kept wrapping around and around. I didn't do it on the cake, but on my mat (so it was laying down, I didn't try to do it vertically). When it was done and had dried a bit, I attached it to the cake after dampening the fondant a bit with water.

 

 

To get the look in the pic, I would just make super thin strips and use a ball tool to ruffle them as you go. Make enough big ones to go around the sides and once they're dried and attached, you can fill in with more strips to get the full coverage.

I've done something very close to this effect by ruffling a very thin strip of fondant on one side and just thinning it with the ball tool on the other side, the ruffled edge was placed toward the cake. I stuck it with a touch of water. Work from the outside in.
