Rainbow cake

I have been asked to do a rainbow cake.  Problem it it is for a wedding cake.  Now, if I was using 8" pans all through, could use the checkerboard inserts.  However you know how big wedding cake layers can go.  My thought is make a whole lot of batter, separating into several bowls to color them.  The question is what is the best way of putting the different colors in the pan to get several colors in one pan?  Yikes!

I am not sure what type of rainbow cake you and your customer discussed or the design of the cake...

 

My idea would be to do each layer in a different color... I know that that seems like alot of work... but you could always bake a smaller height layer to start with... and if each tier is three or for layers, you could go through the rainbow two or three times in the whole cake...

 

If you wanted to do each layer in all the colors, you could put dollops around the pan evenly spaced for each layer and then rotate the layers a bit so that each slice has a few different colors...

 

You could also ring the layers in different colors... start with one on the outside and work your way in to the center.... maybe get every color through each layer that way... 

 

Just some ideas...

Thanks, she had seen a picture of a cake that had all the rainbow colors in one layer......ringing it would probably be the answer.   They were very large square layers, don't know.  Will see after I speak of her on Monday.
