Hiya guys!

I'm new to this page so hope I am posting in the write place..:/

I started a subscription with the "My Cake Decorating" magazine back in march last year and since then have found a love for cake decorating I never knew I had. I would really love to pursue this as a career and start my own business, I was just wondering how you cake decorators out there have done it? Did you have any training or are you self taught?

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated :D

Mwah! x

I started by trying to make chocolate chip cookies for my son. i wanted to be *that* mom. From there, a chance to buy a cheesecake bakery came up, and when I passed, I decided to create my own cheesecake recipe. It took me a year to perfect my recipe and that's when I started baking for family and friends.

Several of us have posted this answer in the last 48 hours.  Please, go back that far and read the other threads on this subject.  I don't really need to get writers cramp repeating myself.

I'm afraid I can't offer you advice Charleyboo, since I just bake cakes for my grandkids and maybe my kids if they show up on their birthdays icon_smile.gif

However, I just wanted to pop in and wish you well. It's a very competitive business from what I understand. Magazines and these forums hold a wealth of information, but I would think classes of some sort would be a good idea as well.

Good luck!

Here since you seem to have had trouble typing that font....

I posted in at least a half dozen different places where it took me a good half hour to carefully think out EACH  answer.  The new person could have gone to look or they could simply have clicked on my username and found that stuff without my having to re-type it.

I have already said that Cake Central does NOT make the quick links to "getting started" information very clear, and a lot of new people stumble around for quite a while before they find the stuff like recipes and "stickies" being compilations of useful stuff,

Wandering around and reading is in fact the fastest way to learn to navigate Cake Central.

AYou can start with the Wilton cake classes. Then just start out making cakes for family and friends to perfect your craft and the rest is word of mouth.
