Heya Cakers =)

I'm looking for this embossing mat or something that is on this cake or something similar.

I'm having my wedding cake made by an amazingly talented friend (because I was told by the Future Hubby that I'm not allowed to make my own cake BUT I will be making a lot of the gum paste flowers hehe he didn't mention I couldn't make them!!)

Anyhoo, I've been out of the loop for so long (been making cute lil cupcakes and not cakes) so I was hoping so of you talented bakers could assist me in locating this embossed image or something similar!

I have no idea who made the cake or where it came from but it is absolutely GORGEOUS and I would love for my cake to look simlar

Please see the attached =)

ok i'm gonna take a stab at this (pun intended) and someone will set me straight shortly

i think it's done by hand

i have some leaf cutters that could do that one petal at a time plus a small flower shape in the center of each flower

but the dots are so random and they follow the lines of the petals without any repeats and without seeming to ovelap any of the petal outlines --i think someone sat there and poked 'em all in

maybe they dotted when they rolled out fondant then did the flowers after cake was covered???

that's what i would try if i was going to do that

it sure it s a beautiful cake--i think it's really difficult to pull off a grey cake--

my cookies are prettier than your cookies because this is the second time i substituted my opalescent sanding sugar when i ran out of sugar to make the batch ha!

lol K8Memphis =)

Thanks for taking a 'stab' at it hehe

Thinking and looking back at it, you could very well be right about it! I didn't think it would've been done by hand at all lol

I spent hours this morning looking at embossing mats and everything and anything possible to make it but kept striking out.

Hmmm I will bring that thought up to my baker and see her think some not so nice thoughts about me haha I don't know if she'll want to do all the dots by hand :s

Also, silver dots - look like dragees? Or silver icing dots?

i'd say silver icing dots because they are not uniform either

y'know if she made a little dooey

stick three or four toothpicks or cut off bamboo skewers into a piece of foam

it would not be bad to do that at all

or made several dooeys to poke in there--hot glued them in so they are stationary

one swirly one straight

i once piped a cake that had teeny freaking tiny dots of icing like those poke holes

it had more design and less random spray (i'm still crabby about that one :)

but once she thinks it through~~she will surely love it!!!

and it seems some of the random dots are stretched a bit --

and they do wrap over the upper edge there on one

might could apply to rolled out fondant then do the flowers?

wonderful wedding day and long happy life wishes--best of the best to you!!!

I agree it looks like two leaf cutters one smaller inside the other and a flower cutter in the middle...than they sat there and poked holes in it ( very time consuming) I think you could get away with either grey/silver icing dots or gray dragees ..I personally would go with sparkly dragees, just using dragees is more work because you need to use tweezers to put them on and than press them in...silver icing you can go much quicker. You say that you are making the flowers ,if you look close the flowers look like they just cascade down to the next tier down but looking close you can see the cascade goes most of the way down the tier than they use single flowers with a few leaves placed on the tier that the flowers are cascading to if that makes any since. I can see why they would do that 1. You would have to have the cascade the exact measurement from one tier to the tier its cascading to unless you want the friend messing around alot with the cascades and taking a chance on breaking them. Just looking close at the cake in the picture they made the cascades go almost all the way down than had a few come up from the tier that its going to. The cake is absolutely beauiful alot of work but well worth it.

I reckon you could make your own embossing thing for this, using dots of royal icing on a piece of flexible plastic or something. Then when dry flip it over and use the dots to make the impression. Would be quicker and more uniform than doing it by hand. I don't know what material you would pipe onto though, you wouldn't want your RI dots to keep falling off your homemade impression mat. Maybe someone else would know the ideal thing to use. Or, just do it by hand with a small ball tool, but yeah...painstaking!
