AI've been having trouble with gum paste flowers and figures! I tried making a zebra figure out of gum paste . I made the body parts separately, wrapped them in plastic wrap and then went to assemble everything. I put a dab of water on the torso and the arm, just enough to get it moist, and when I tried to put the arm on.. it just got slimy and fell off. nothing sticks! same with flowers. I made the rose petals separate and went to put the together but they just slid off. what am I doing wrong?!:(:(:(

Sounds like you are getting it too wet.

Try some gumpaste or tylose glue instead of plain water and just a tiny bit on one piece, it doesn't really have to be on the torso and arm.

Once gum paste starts to dry out even a little bit it no longer will adhere to itself with a bit of water.  You have to have a pretty thick gum glue, use royal icing, or melted chocolate to get it to adhere at that point. Learned that the same way you did! HTH

Or try a little chocolate.   It's a great glue and dries super fast.

That will work.  A stronger product comes from mixing water with some tylose, cmc, or gum tex, letting it sit long enough to form a glue consistency.

Sorry--no exact recipe for me.

I take about 1/4 c. of very hot water and sprinkle on about 1/4 tsp. of tylose.  I mix it well with a toothpick--there will be white clumps.  I like it to set up like a glue.  If it doesn't, I heat it in the microwave and add another small bit of tylose.  I  only use it once cooled.

HI, I had the same problem and found out by experimenting that I was using to much glue and making it to wet.

You only need a tiny amount and wait approx 10 seconds for it to go tacky, works every time for me now.

Hope this helpsicon_smile.gif

Athank you so much, I had a feeling it might be too much water. and letting it sit a minute is a great idea! ill give it a go. :-)
